Simon Dodsworth ARPS FHEA

My first - and so far only - book.

Simon Dodsworth ARPS FHEA

So; I take photographs and I make art. I used to teach design, too.

Growing up in the austere landscape of the Pennine moors in the north of England gave me an affinity with simple, graphic, compositions which has been a huge influence on my creativity.

My photos are sometimes abstract, sometimes not, and often graphic in nature. By that I mean that the content of my photos is often about strong, simple, shapes, along with visual texture.

My art is also abstract, geometric, and generally involves metal leaf being applied to canvas or paper. At least it does at the moment; I've lots of ideas as to the different directions that my art can take, but perhaps that will have to wait a little until I can devote more time to it.

I've been an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society for many years, and more recently a  Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.  I've also written a book about interior design. It sells quite well, and it's now in its second edition.

It was whilst I was working as a design tutor that I realised that I'd left my creative side behind, and that I wanted to actually be creative again, and so I started to develop both my art and re-discover my photography. Teaching is rewarding, but nothing beats creating, for me at least.
